Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse (2018) is a metaphor for being bi and coming out/coming to terms with it.
Miles, a teenager, sees no problem with Spiderman/looks up to him as an out figure. However, his father (cop/figure of authority, historically anti-lgbt) doesn’t agree with the vigilantism/lifestyle and definitely doesn’t want his son emulating that.
Miles hangs out with his seemingly much more tolerant uncle.
Spiderman dies; miles loses his lgbt rolemodel.
Miles gets bit by the spider/realizes he’s bi, and realizes that this means his father will no longer love him the way he should, which is when he starts being secretive
Gwen noticing miles is her gaydar
Miles has to deal with the internalized biphobia/being spiderman. He tries to hide it, explain it away, and doubts himself every chance he gets. Obviously, this leads to disaster in multiple ways on multiple levels.
All the other spideys meet him / miles meets the greater gay community for the first time, realizes he isn’t alone
The scene where they’re all coming at him at once is their attempt to get Miles to fully accept himself because he hasn’t yet and it’s hindering his growth
Miles tries to convince himself and the others that he has accepted his sexuality even though he clearly hasn’t. Peter B has one last talk about it with him in the dorm.
Miles dad comes along as says what he does because he senses that his son is hiding something and doesn’t want this strained relationship
Miles realizes that his uncle (the prowler) wasn’t as tolerant as he thought, their relationship could have been destroyed had Arin not realized the error of his ways and changed (but then he’s shot so that’s another rolemodel figure lost)
Miles continues to hide from his father, but they understand each other better now
Miles’ father, after seeing what the spideys/gays can do for the community, starts to change his mind.
Miles is still cioseted by the end in some ways but he’s confident in his abilities/sexuality and is no longer ashamed of who/what he is
American Venom is possibly one of the most powerful moments in gaming. After everything you’ve been through in Red Dead 2, the opportunity to kill the low down rotten snake rat Micah presents itself and you are just as eager as John is to kill him. You, Sadie, Charles, it’s fucking time. Much to the dismay of Abigail, it’s time to ride. As upset as she is, you can’t let this one go. It’s a promise, to the gang, possibly to Arthur, to John himself, it’s a promise. Micah cannot be allowed to live. Fuck this ranch and whatever life we trying to live on it, it’s fucking time. You throw on Arthur’s hat and man I swear I was just walking through these niggas on that mountain. There was no healing, no deadeye, just me shooting the shit out of anyone that would defend this piece of trash at the top of that mountain. It’s the stuff of legends and I felt every piece of it.
fuck me i just remembered detroit become stupid came out last year
2018 didn’t so much teach me this as it did cement it in my brain that you can make your fiction as racist, homophobic, sexist, as evil and vile as you want, as long as you’ve got a Cute White Boy involved there’s going to be a dumbass fandom going to bat for it harder than anyone else
